MUSEUM TECHNICIAN HISTORY
The following are the duties of this position at the GS-07. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position. - Ensures that inventory information is accurately and correctly recorded in the collections management system. - Applies agency-wide and site-specific methods and standards for accessioning and cataloging, including numbering, description, object labeling, and other associated tasks for museum holdings. - Using digital camera(s) and/or scanner(s), creates clear, appropriate digital images for a wide variety of artifacts and collection records following standard museum and NARA guidelines. Experience:
For the GS-05, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:
- Following established procedures to ensure objects of historical or cultural significance are protected from environmental hazards, such as extreme temperature/humidity, mold, damaging lighting conditions, or pests; AND - Assisting in cataloging or inventorying objects in museum collections. OR You may substitute education for general or specialized experience as follows:
Successful completion of 4 years above high school leading to a bachelor's degree with major study or 24 semester hours of course work in a related field. Related fields of study include art, history, museum studies, scientific subjects, or other courses related to the position to be filled. OR You may qualify by a combination of experience and education. Options for qualifying based on a combination will be identified in the online questions. Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. To combine education and experience, the total percentage of experience at the required grade level compared to the requirement, as well as the percentage of completed education compared to the requirement must equal at least 100 percent.
Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
